Hot Tip is on a brief hiatus this week due to a job I’m on, but as my city is infested with ICE agents doing nothing but terrorizing hardworking community members, I do feel compelled to share a few thoughts. They are as follows:
It is objectively hilarious to order a self-driving car to your location and then set it on fire. I think Google (which owns Waymo) will survive this heartbreaking ordeal of five burnt robot taxis.
There are no riots in LA, despite what you’re being told/shown on TV. Two people opportunistically looting a store does not a violent riot make.
There is some graffiti downtown that says “FUCK ICE” (very scary) where peaceful protesters are speaking out against the random kidnapping of non-criminal human beings from their homes, schools, and places of work.
There are so many great burritos in LA, breakfast and non.
If you work for ICE, you should be ashamed of yourself. Extreme loser behavior.
If your kid works for ICE, you should be required to have a bumper sticker on your car, like the “proud parent of an honor student” ones, except this one says “embarrassed parent of an ICE agent.”
LA County is gigantic. It is more populous than 40 US states. What you are seeing on social media/the news is about three square blocks in downtown LA.
Donald Trump wants you to forget he was accused by Elon Musk last week of being a pedophile. He really doesn’t want the Trump name associated with Jeffrey Epstein or the Epstein files. Donald Trump doesn’t want his name in the same sentence as the Epstein files. Epstein files and Trump in the same place is what he is looking to avoid. Trump Epstein pedophile. He really doesn’t want anyone saying that.
Trump also wants this situation to escalate. He is looking to injure American citizens via our own military in order to exert even more control over us.
If police officers in riot gear are so afraid of plastic water bottles maybe they should just go to therapy. Or maybe they have rabies.
While I do love the idea of making things harder for the LAPD, they have explicitly said they don’t want federal military forces here.
The jacaranda trees are blooming here right now, and they’re beautiful.
Terry Moran being fired from ABC for calling hateful people hateful is stupid. A quick q for my former employer: Why do journalists need to pretend to be unbiased during an attempted fascist coup?
It’s high past time we stop calling him Dr. Phil and start going with just Phil. Guy doesn’t even deserve a “Mr.”
Undocumented people around this country pay taxes and contribute to our economy every damn day.
The best bagel in Los Angeles is from Courage Bagels. My parents say it’s the best in the world, but I fear the repercussions of saying so definitively. I will definitely give it top five globally.
LA is not on fire, except for a small brush fire in Burbank that the hero firefighters we love are dealing with.
Angelenos are less safe tonight, strictly due to the thousands of forces deployed around the city, against the wishes of our mayor and governor.
Having to side with Gavin Newsom is annoying.

Having to side with Gav is grinding every one of my gears rn. I had someone in a group I was facilitating ask me who I would go with in a Trump v Newsome showdown. It led into a very nuanced conversation about the different ways that narcissism presents itself. But yeah, I’ll side with the guy who isn’t eating human rights for breakfast like they’re Wheaties any day of the week, if those are my choices.
