Some future plans at Hot Tip HQ
Before we get back to our regularly scheduled programming next week!
The last ten months figuring out what Hot Tip is (and, equally important, what it isn’t) have been creatively fulfilling and fun in a way that I truly never anticipated, and I want to thank you so much for being part of that!
Building a space with thousands (!!!) of readers where I get to discuss the real news, make fun of Ted Cruz’s awful face, ponder the Buttigieg beard effect, meme my way through mergers and HHS missteps, interview brilliant former government employees and painfully cool cookbook authors, compile lengthy recommendation lists from friends, find the weirdest products for sale online, write a love letter to my chosen city, share a perfect lemon blueberry cake recipe, et freakin cetera is so special to me. In this very bad moment, I love helping you maintain a balance of a) real info and b) joy. I’m excited to keep growing this lil business of mine, and bring you along for the ride.
Of course, it’s also very scary to be ~vulnerable~ on Al Gore’s internet and admit out loud that I want to try to make this into something more financially sustainable for me, but I finally feel ready to take the plunge!
So, to that end, starting next week, Hot Tip will be a (mostly) paid subscription model, but I will still offer one free and in-depth newsletter every week.
For paid subscribers ($5/month or $30/year), here’s what you can expect:
I’ll be upping the standard Hot Tip newsletter to three times a week. As more shit meets fan, staying informed while maintaining sanity + giggles is crucial.
You’ll still get weekly Sunday Recos, a bright spot of fun/interesting things to read, try, and watch as well as a look at the week ahead.
Hot Tip Mags will now be seasonal, due to the pace of global insanity. They’re a lot of work, but also a lot of fun, so I want to keep doing them, just less regularly.
Some satire pieces to break up the monotony of news.
As always, access to the full archive and interview exclusives.
More to come as Hot Tip continues to grow.
Btw, I know that asking for money in this economy is no small thing, and I want you to know that I take it seriously! In the nearly one year I’ve been writing this newsletter, I’ve poured so much of myself and my energy into it, and recently I’ve been trying to figure out a way to balance what works best for readers (I settled on a $30 annual plan) with the time-consuming tasks of research, graphics, writing, marketing, etc. on my end. I hope this feels like a good place to start!
Not sure yet if paid is for you? Dip your toe in the water, babe! Go for a one week free trial and check out everything in the archives.
Not able to go paid right now? I totally get it, and don’t worry! I’m grateful to have you here. You’ll still get Hot Tip once a week, and if you get other people to subscribe (free or paid!) you’ll earn some free months, too!
Most of all, thank you from the bottom of my extremely vaccinated heart for reading and for being part of this journey. <3
